The people of Ilesha East, West, Obokun and Oriade have eulogised the State Government of Osun led by Mr Adegboyega Oyetola for its  proactive measures in preventing further spread of Covid-19 in the State.

Those who spoke with the Covid-19 sensitisation crew of the State Ministry of Information and Civic Orientation gave the commendation during yet another sensitization exercise on the deadly virus by the Ministry to Ijesha land.

Two traders and a retired civil servant Mr Peter Obi and Kabir Arisekola with Chief Olabisi Olatunji described the enlightenment tour as apt and timely when viewed against the backdrop of the rate at which the second wave of the pandemic is wreaking havocs in the society.

While eulogizing Governor Adegboyega Oyetola administration for its unrelenting drive to make Osun COVID-19 free, they charged all and sundry to adhere strictly to the safety procedures in their own interest, maintaining that contrary to the impression by some uninformed minds in the society, COVID 19 is not a hoax but reality.

Corroborating their views, an artisan, Mr. Sajuyigbe Olufemi noted that the N50,000 or six months jail penalty stipulated by the law for non-compliance with the directive  on  the novel virus is a welcome development which according to them will serve as a deterrent to some recalcitrant people.

Also speaking, the Vice Chairman, commercial motorcyclist operators in Iwoye Ijesa, Mr Taiwo Abimbola expressed dismay towards the care-free attitude of some people, majority of whom he said are adamant to the precautionary measures.

Earlier while speaking in all the places  like Ereja square, Kajola, okesa,Ilo-Ijesa, Esa Odo, Ilare Ijesa, Boredun, Ilase Ijesa among others visited  , the leader of the state government  sensitization team who is also the state Commissoner for information and Civic Orientation,Mrs Funke Egbemode took time to encourage people to imbibe the use of all COVID 19 protocols especially through the  regular washing of hands, the use of sanitiser gels and covering of nose and face with masks as stipulated by NCDC, among other safety protocols.

Mrs Egbemode who was represented by the  Deputy Director, Grassroots and Public Enlightenment of the Ministry, Mr Segun Oyeniyi, however, expressed total dismay over the not-too-encouraging attitude of the people of Ijesha land to the COVID 19 compliance protocols.

Mrs  Egbemode therefore  implored them to have a change of heart in the overall interest of everyone of them and the state of Osun at large in making it COVID-19 free .

It would be recalled that the State’s Commissioner for information and Civic Orientation, Mrs Funke Egbemode, had earlier  announced that as part of her Ministry’s mandate, the exercise would be carried out from time to time to different cities, towns, villages and hamlets of the State of Osun aimed at making the entire State COVID 19 free.

The enlightenment tour to other parts of the state continues tomorrow.
