Markets men and women in the State of Osun have been warned to be more deliberate about their safety in the face of the recent surge of Covid-19 cases in the state as the new Delta variant is more virulent than the earlier two waves
This warning was given today at Alamisi Market in Ikirun in Ifelodun Local Government Area of the State, by the State Commissioner for Information and Civic Orientation, Mrs Funke Egbemode, while flagging off another round of sensitisation programme, on the new wave of the resurging pandemic. The stay-safe-campaign is scheduled to be taken to major markets across the three senatorial districts of the state.
The Commissioner,who was represented by the Coordinating Director in the Ministry,Mrs.Olubukola Aderibigbe, lamented that those in the market had abandoned all safety protocols put in place against the virus.
Egbemode who used the occasion to trumpet the various dividends of democracy being dispensed by the Oyetola led administration,advanced that it takes sound health to enjoy all these deliverables.
He then counseled everybody in the market to resume strict observance to all safety protocols in order to forestall another regime of restrictions with its accompanying difficulties.
Speaking at the rally,which was also taken to Ikirun palace square market, veteran actress, Toyin Oladiran, popularly known as ‘Abeni Agbon’,who also stressed the fact that the Delta Variant wave of Covid-19 was more deadly than the earlier ones and warned the market users to drop their lackadaisical attitude towards the disease.
The Babaloja- General of Ikirunland, Chief Abayomi Adeyemo,who also spoke at the occasion promised that with effect from next Monday, there would be provision for hand washing materials and sanitizers at every entrance of the market.
In their seperate speeches,Iyaloja Olabisi Olaoye and the Elemoso Iyalode of Ikirunland,Chief(Mrs.) Kudirat Olabisi promised to enforce strict compliance to the safety precautions as from Monday,mandating all traders to come along with their facemasks to avoid being barred from entering the market.
It would be recalled that the strain of the new wave Delta Variant of Covid-19 had earlier been confirmed,by relevant health authorities,in many states in Nigeria.
