Osun government under the administration of Governor Adegboyega Oyetola has commended Osun Youth Empowerment Scheme (OYES) Cadets for displaying Omoluabi ethos and steering clear of violence and hooliganism during the EndSars protests in the State.
This is as the government also gave the cadets clean bill of health for not participating in EndSars protest and the ensuing breakdown of law and order, which involved looting and other vices.
The Senior Special Assistant to Governor Adegboyega Oyetola on Social Intervention Programmes (SSA-SIP,) Hon. Lukman Abimbola Bello made this known during the Familiarization and Sensitization tour to OYES cadets at the nine federal constituencies by his office.
While addressing the cadets at Osogbo Federal Constituency on Wednesday 2nd December, 2020 at Olorunda LG hall, Olonkoro Osogbo, Hon. Bello said the government of Governor Adegboyega Oyetola believed in empowerment of youths, hence the various social intervention programs in the state for the engagement of youths.
The SSA SIP added that the governor was particularly happy with OYES cadets in the state, because not a single one was arrested, mentioned or pointed at as culprit or accomplice among those who vandalized and looted government and peoples’ properties during the crisis that followed the EndSars protests that rocked the state.
Hon. Bello went ahead to acknowledge their dedication to duty despite the meager allowance being received, while he said that Governor Oyetola has plans to make the OYES cadets as happy as civil servants in the state happy.
He also assured them of prompt payment of their allowances.
Frowning at activities of some mischievous youths in the state, the SSA to the Governor on Social Intervention Programmes charged the cadets to continue to be honest ambassadors, correct wrong impressions and take advantage of the exit programmes of the scheme on different vocational trainings
Speaking on behalf of the OYES Commandantè, Colonel EniIbukun Oyewole rtd, Mr. Adeola Olayiwola said the exit programme training was a developmental step for empowerment and engagement in the future.
He announced that the government had approved the participation of old OYES cadets in the exit programme trainings across the state.
Mr. Olayiwola reiterated the determination of the government to continue treating the OYES well.
As he described them as an important part of Osun, he said the OYES Cadets being accepted in sectors of the state is a testament that their impact in the state is acknowledged.
Olayiwola while appreciating the government for the OYES, charged the cadets to be steadfast in the discharge of their duties, while also keying to the Social Intervention programmes which is a mutual benefit scheme targeted towards alleviation of poverty in the state.
In their own reactions, the cadets expressed their gratitude to Governor for the opportunities given to them, prompt payment of their allowances and most importantly for commending them for being well behaved before, during and after the EndSars Protests and looting in the state.
