Ilesa West local government on Tuesday received Covid 19 palliatives from the 21-man Food and Relief Committee set up by Osun Government to cushion the effect of the lockdown placed on human and vehicular movements across the State, as part of measures to curb the spread of COVID-19 in the State.

The committee headed by Asiwaju Tunde Badmus, had earlier today flagged off the distribution of the food to three pilot local governments, which include Ilesa West local government.

The Chairman Ilesa West Local government, Alhaji Nurudeen Giwa, while receiving the food items, appreciated the state government under the administration of Governor Adegboyega Oyetola and affirmed that the relief materials are for the identified and registered vulnerable in the society in accordance with the World Bank Social register such as aged, widowed, persons with Disabilities, and others.
Nurudeen maintained that the selection was not politically or religiously inclined, saying the distribution is based on transparency and accountability, and that the intention of the government is to ensure that the vulnerable receive the relief package in form of food such as rice, beans, cassava flakes, Semovita, Eggs, Sphagetti, among others.
The Chairman appreciated the 21-man Food and Relief Committee and the State government supportive friends, donors and partners, who have contributed to the project to bring life saving items to Vulnerable in the state during this Coronavirus pandemic which has incapacitated movement in the state and country at large through lockdown, and he prayed God’s blessings on all.
The receipt of the food items was witnessed by (leaders) representatives of Ilesa West Christian Association of Nigeria, Chief Imam, and Chairman Community Development Council and Civil Society Organizations among others.
Earlier the Secretary of the 21-man Food and Relief Committee, Chief Adedebayo Jimoh Ibrahim said that to ensure the stimulus packages get to the needy, the distribution would be made using the Osun World Bank-approved social investment registers and through special interest groups such as orphanage homes, religious communities, traditional institutions, trade groups, among others.
The remaining members of the 21 man food relief Committee are Pastor Enoch Adeboye, Pastor Matthew Asimolowo, Ooni of Ife, Oba Enitan Ogunwusi Ojaja I, General Alani Akinrinade (Rtd), Chief Tunde Ponle, Rt Hon Patricia Etteh, Dr Akin Ogunbiyi, Sir Demola Aladekomo, Rt Hon Lasun Yusuff, Dr Wale Babalakin and Dr Segun Aina.
Others are Mallam Yussuf Alli, SAN, Mrs Folorunsho Alakija, Mr. AbdulKabir Aliyu, Dr Deji Adeleke, Otunba Iyiola Omisore and three former governors of the state, Chief Bisi Akande, Prince Olagunsoye Oyinlola and Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola.
The palliatives will be distributed to the target beneficiaries on Wednesday at designated local development council areas of Ilesa West Local government.
