The Aragbiji of Iragbiji, Oba Abdulrasheed Olabomi, has urged residents to strictly observe personal hygiene following the reported outbreak of the dreaded Lassa Fever in the state.

Oba Abdulrasheed listed the causes of Lassa Fever to include dirty environment, exposure of food items to rat and lack of personal hygiene.

He harped on the importance of keeping clean surroundings, getting rid of rats as much as possible, and proper handling of food items.

According to him:  “I urge our dear citizens in the state to be conscious of keeping a clean environment, because cleanliness is critical in the fight against pandemic of any sort.

“Lassa fever, according to report is caused by rodents, and it is difficult to identify on the face value the ones that are careers of the disease. The way out is to keep them away from our vicinity.

“God forbid that we become victims of this deadly disease. It is so serious that it kills fast and spreads fast also. So, carelessness in this matter is dangerous.

“Let us also ensure that we handle our food items with utmost carefulness and practice safe storage of food items in properly covered containers.

“We salute our governor, Mr Adegboyega Oyetola, who has made the health of citizens his administration’s priority. The steps he’s taken since his assumption of office are proof that he wants us all to be in good health. He ensured that our Primary Health Centres are fixed and equipped. We also have it on good authority that plans are in place to cater for victims of lassa fever at no cost to them. But it is important that we avoid becoming victims in every waywe can”, Aragbiji said.
