The Prelate of the Methodist Church of Nigeria, Dr Samuel Chukwuemeka Kalu Uche, on Thursday, commended Governor Adegboyega Oyetola of the State of Osun on his commitment to the welfare of workers and overall development of the State.
Uche, speaking during his courtesy call on Governor Adegboyega Oyetola at the State Secretariat, Abere, said part of the implication of prioritising workers’ welfare is that workers have become healthier by reason of care.
He added that Osun workers are not walking skeletons because they are enjoying good welfare.
“We have admired this state from afar, especially since the beginning of this administration. This is my third time here as the Prelate of Methodist and I’m very happy to be here. During my last visit to the State to commission the Bishop of Imesi-Ile, just at the inception of this administration, I met the Deputy Governor who represented the Governor at the event.
“I siezed the opportunity to plead that the best thing that will advertise this government is the payment of workers’ salaries, pension, gratuities a s other entitlements. I was very delighted when I got informed by my able Archbishop that all those entitlements are being paid.
“A governor that attends to the welfare of workers in such manner does not need so much campaign for a second term.
“I also want to commend the State, because apart from little political gimmicks, this Osun State is known for peace. This is highly commendable and Osun need share its secret with other states.
“I want to assure you that the Church will continue to pray for the government and partner with the government”, Uche said.
In his remark, Governor Adegboyega Oyetola lauded the Methodist Church of Nigeria and the entirety of the Church, for the love it has shown the government.
Oyetola, speaking through his Secretary to State Government, Prince Wole Oyebamiji, said the developmental strides his administration has recorded since its inception are based on the belief that he is in power to serve.
“The various strides that this administration has made have been due to our love for God and humanity, especially as Mr Governor holds the view that you are in government to serve the people who voted you into power.
“The last two-and-half years has witnessed huge strides in the developmental process of this State. For instance, full payment of salaries, pensions, gratuities and other entitlements are paid regularly. In addition, there are a lot of infrastructural developments especially in the area of roads.
“Aside that, our government is the first in the history of Nigeria to have a health facility in each political Ward in the State, and we have 332 here in Osun. It is the belief of this government that health services must be nearer to the people”, Oyetola said.
