As part of the one-week activities to commemorate the 60th Anniversary of the School ( 1960-2020), a Special Public Lecture titled ‘The State of Secondary School Education in Nigeria: Yesterday, Today, and Tomorrow’ to be held at Double Hills Hotel, Iragbiji will take place on Saturday February 1, 2020.
The lecture will be delivered by Professor Olutayo Adesina. According to a statement signed by Engineer Hussain Toke Olaniyan, an Old Boy and Special Adviser to the Governor on Works and Transportation, ‘the guest lecturer is an eminently qualified historian of International repute, and Head, Department of History, University of Ibadan, Professor Olutayo Adesina. He will be sharing with us a unique intellectual offering, befitting only of his academic expertise and status, and thus illuminating our minds concerning what was, is, and the anticipated future and relevance of Secondary Education, not only in Iragbiji and its environ, but in Nigeria as a Country.’
The governor of the state of Osun, Mr Adegboyega Oyetola is expected at the event as the Special Guest of Honour, while eminent personalities from all works of life, illustrious Sons and Daughters of Iragbiji, the Alumni Association of the School, Students, Teachers, and well-wishers will also be in attendance.
As part of specific activities marking the celebration, Friday has been fixed for motivational and career talks with the theme: Discipline, Morality and Academic Excellence.
Special Juma’t service will be observed at the Iragbiji Central Mosque later in the day, while Members of the Alumni Association shall proceed to the Palace of Aragbiji of Iragbiji, Oba Abdurrasheed Ayotunde Olabomi Odundun IV, to pay homage to the monarch. Also lined up as part of the grand finale is awards of excellence to some distinguished alumni, benefactors, past teachers as well as posthumous awards for community service to deserving founding fathers of the school.
The event will be rounded off with Anniversary Thanksgiving Service at St. Peters Church, Iragbiji on Sunday, February 2nd, 2020.
