Following the opening of the Olaiya flyover for public use on Monday, commuters, pedestrians and business owners in the area have lauded the governor and the government of Osun, describing the project as both beautiful and critical to fluid movement around the State capital.
This is as Governor Adegboyega Oyetola took the first ride on the bridge.
Recall that the government of Osun had announced through a statement signed by the Commissioner for Works and Transport, Engr. Remi Omowaiye, that the flyover would be opened for public use on Monday, following due certification for safe ride by external consultants.
Citizens, reacting to the opening of the bridge, commended Oyetola for investing in alleviating the discomfort resulting from the former state of the Olaiya intersection.
Dara Adewunmi, a pedestrian, while commenting on the impact of the project, said traffic experience will never remain the same in Osogbo because of the fluidity the flyover affords.
He said: “It was a bit of inconvenience while the construction lasted, but the output is a delight and the sight is a beauty to behold. Besides, this is coming as a huge relief for road users. Traffic experience will never remain the same in Osogbo, thanks to the initiative of Mr Governor”.
Babafemi Ayodele, a commercial motorcyclist, described the project as unprecedented in Osun. According to him: “We are happy about this development in our State. This is unprecedented in Osun. It has beautified this city in no small way.
“The governor who has done this deserves commendation, and assuredly his name will never be erased from Osun’s history books”, Ayodele said.
Nimota Owolabi, a trader around the Olaiya intersection, was full of praise and admiration for the administration of Mr Adegboyega Oyetola, praying God for strength and provision to deliver greater dividends of democracy.
“On a day like this, we can only pray to God preserve this government and the governor who has done this wonderful thing. I pray God brings him back for second term.
“He is really doing well. Everyone from far and near is speaking about this project, among several other great projects he has done. May God continue to help his government.
“This is very good. Anyone who knows what Olaiya junction looked like before will know that this is a wonder”, Owolabi stated.
Another trader, Isa’ad Ibrahim from Sokoto State, said what Oyetola has done in Olaiya and in the whole of Osogbo was commendable. He said although trading activities around the intersection were affected for some time, the inconvenience was worth it in the end.
He added: “We see the Governor’s work all around the state and we are satisfied. We pray that God will help him win the second term so that he can continue to fix Osun like he has done so far”.
Alhaji Jamiu Adejumo, a resident in the area, commended the government for implementing a project of such magnitude despite paucity of funds in the State.
Adejumo, who lauded Oyetola’s financial management acumen, singled out for commendation Oyetola’s prioritisation of workers’ and citizens’ welfare amid the delivery of critical infrastructural projects like the Olaiya flyover.
“I am very happy today, I thank God and also thank the governor for this great project. He has done what no other leader has done in the history of Osun. He has done so much with less noise.
“He has done a project of this magnitude, yet he has not failed in his obligations to workers. He has continued to pay full salaries and other welfare packages.
“This is a strange sight in Osun. Based on what he has done and how well he has given an account of himself, we are hopeful for an easy second term”, Adejumo said.
