The Nigerian Society of Engineers has lauded the Governor Oyetola-led administration’s initiative to construct a flyover at the Olaiya intersection, describing it as a purposeful infrastructural development.
In letter to the state government signed by the Chairman of the Osogbo branch of the Society, Engr. Wale Emmanuel Alonge, the Society said that consideration of the construction of the Olaiya flyover is timely, appropriate and commendable.
“The construction of flyover at Olaiya is indeed timely and long overdue. We must not fail to acknowledge the efforts made in time past at this Junction which necessitated the demolition of the initial Roundabout to give way to the present intersection.
“This effort was commendable at the point in time, however, with the influx of people into the state due to development, the traffic volume in the state capital increased astronomically in addition to the impatient attitude of drivers responsible for incessant accidents at this Intersection.
“Thus, the Intersection can no longer accommodate traffic volume at this point which increases daily with ever increasing population.
“We therefore commend the consideration of the construction of the flyover at Olaiya Junction, which is indeed timely, appropriate and commendable, as this will save man-hour loss due to traffic gridlock at the peak periods of the day.
“The Society is willing to collaborate effectively towards the achievement of the government’s goal in the construction of the flyover”, the letter read.
Kudos for this insight to our Governor, Oyetola. May the Lord lead him aright and make this project a reality.
Amen
