The government of the State of Osun has approved the appointments of Prince Akeem Olusayo Ogungbangbe and Prince John Omoloso Makanjuola as the new Owaloko of Iloko-Ijesha in Oriade Local Government Area and Elekusa of Ekusa in Odo-Otin Local Government Area respectively.

The Commissioner for Information and Civic Orientation, Mrs Funke Egbemode, disclosed this in an interview after the meeting of the State’s Executive Council on Monday.

The appointment of Prince Akeem Ogungbangbe as the new Owaloko of Iloko-Ijesha came after a keen contest that lingered for nine years, following the demise of the former Owaloko, Oba Oladele Olashore, on June 1, 2012.

The stool of the Elekusa of Ekusa had also witnessed legal and traditional tussle since 2010, sequel to the death of the previous Elekusa, Oba Joseph Adeleke Araoye from Osabunmi ruling house on July 10, 2010.

Egbemode, commenting on the appointments, said: “The appointment of the two monarchs takes effect from Monday, April 19, 2021.

“This is another move by the administration of Governor Adegboyega Oyetola at ensuring peace and tranquility in communities where there had been legal and traditional battles over vacant royal stools.

“With these appointments, the tussles of nine years in Iloko-Ijesha and 11 years in Ekusa have been laid to rest, following elections of the candidates by the kingmakers in their respective communities and ratification by the State’s Executive Council chaired by Governor Adegboyega Oyetola”, Egbemode stated.
