The First Lady of Osun State, Mrs Kafayat Olaitan Oyetola, has lauded the contributions of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defense Corps (NSCDC) in the ongoing campaign against sexual and gender-based violence across the country.
Mrs Oyetola made this commendation at the formal launching of the Special Female Squad of the Osun State Command of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defense Corps, on Friday.
She lauded the leadership of the security agency for the innovative inclusion of the special female squad in its formation, adding that the state was ready to engage them on many developmental campaigns that transcend the subject of gender-based violence.
“I particularly acknowledge the role of the personnel of the NSCDC in the ongoing national campaign against sexual and gender-based violence (SGBV).
“Here in the state of Osun, we shall actively engage with NSCDC to support the Police and other security agencies in helping to combat the menace of SGBV. The engagements would not be limited to the SGBV issues, we shall also explore collaborating with the Corps as we embark on new mission to campaign against drugs and substance abuse especially in our schools.
“I commend the present leadership of the NSCDC for the innovation of Special Female Squad being established across the country. This is in addition to the set goal at deterring attacks by armed terrorists. I am happy that our own special female squad is being unveiled today”, she said.
