The State Government of Osun wishes to commiserate with the families and lovers of one of the finest Nigerian Singer-Songwriter, Majekodunmi Fasheke, popularly known as Majek Fashek.

Majek Fashek was one of the most creative and talented music brands that Nigeria and Africa produced. His excellence transcended the indigenous hybrids of his time, making him one of the original Nigerian artists to adapt the music of the Caribbean (most notably reggae) in his very unique style.

The State Government of Osun is indeed proud of the accomplishments of Majek Fashek – the singing phenomenon of Ijesha descent. He was a preacher par excellence, with a vocal proficiency that earned him a comparison with the iconic Bob Marley.

Although Majek had his struggles especially in recent years, the impacts he made in his profession and through his lyrics will remain a reference point for the younger generation.

The State Government of Osun once more registers its resonating sympathy to the families of Majekodunmi Fasheke, to the entirety of Ijesha and Benin people, and to Nigeria as a whole.

Funke Egbemode
Honorable Commissioner for Information and Civic Orientation,
State of Osun
