In fulfilment of one of its social security promises to the people, the State government of Osun this week kick-started a one week orientation cum capacity building programme for victims of one form of violence or the other in the state.

The training programme organized in collaboration with the United Nations Development Programme(UNDP) brought together victims of violence in the state. Their names were collated from a social register put together by the State Operation Coordinating Unit(SOCU).

Declaring the capacity building workshop open on behalf of the State Governor, Mr Adegboyega Oyetola, Commissioner for Economic Planning and Budget, Prof. Olalekan Yinusa said the present administration came up with the program in collaboration with the UNDP to assist people who have been victims of one violence or the other at one time or the other..

He added that the essence is to help the victims get out of every psychological challenge or trauma they may have gone through which could have caused a
setback for their lives, noting that through the program they stand a good chance of having a sense of belonging again so as to move on with their lives.

The university don who explained that the administration of Governor Gboyega Oyetola will continue to make efforts to make life better for every resident of the state, pointed out that the victims of violence invited for the capacity building workshop were drawn from the computed World Bank’s social security register put together by SOCU.

He said, “We all know the effects of loosing things you gathered with so many years of labour to a violence that broke out in just one day. Some of you even lost loved ones, family and friends, government recognizes the fact that you are in pain and anguish”.

“That’s why the administration of Governor Gboyega Oyetola is organizing this in conjunction with UNDP get you back to your feet physically, psychologically and financially “.
Be rest assured that it is not the end of the world, good things can still happen to you. We just want you to make the best use of this opportunity”. The Commissioner stated.

Participants at the capacity building programme which will run for one week expressed gratitude to Governor Adegboyega Oyetola for deeming it fit to help rescue them out of their present predicaments caused by civil violence.

The Programme continues tommorow where at Staff Development Centre, behind the State Secretariat,Abere, where resource persons would be delivering papers on Concepts, Causes and Effects of Violence, Business Development, Turning Vocational Training into Buisness among others.
