The State Government of Osun has warned truck owners and drivers against indiscriminate parking of trucks by the road side, stating that it has established the Owena Truck Transit Park for that purpose.

It has also warned all transport operators  against indiscriminate loading and offloading of passengers on the road, as well as the operation of other unauthorized parks, stating that transport operators should use the Olaiya Motor Park provided by the government.

In a statement by the Special Adviser to the Governor on Works and Transport, Engr. Olatoke Hussein Olaniyan, the State Government expressed concerns that despite making provisions that guarantee safety of citizens and transport operators, many transport operators still disregard laid down regulations and provisions made by the government.

According to Engr Olaniyan: “Transport operators should remember that a memorandum of understanding has been signed between the State government and the leadership of the Osun State Chapter of the National Union of Road Transport Workers. As a result, the conditions set in the agreement is binding on all operators.

“For the sake of order and safety, operators should honour the terms of the agreement to avoid sanctions. Citizens are also advised to prioritize their safety by patronizing the approved Parks.

“Also, citizens who are vehicle owners are advised to desist from the habit  of patronizing touts for the processing of their documents. They are advised to go through the normal process at the office or agency authorised to issue the documents”, Olaniyan explained.
