Governor of Osun, Mr Adegboyega Oyetola yesterday embarked on an on the spot inspection of portion of Osogbo Grammar School, Osogbo which was damaged by last Wednesday’s heavy rainstorm.
The Governor who was accompanied on the inspection by the Commissioner for Works and Transport Hon. Remi Omowaiye, Chairman SUBEB, Hon. Ajibola Famurewa, Commissioner for Environment and Sanitation Hon. Sola Oladepo , special Adviser on Education Hon. Jamiu Olawumi as well as the Coordinating Director, Ministry of Education, Mrs Kehinde Olaniyan ordered the immediate commencement renovation work on the affected portion of the school.
The state helmsman who expressed sadness over the degree of damage done to the school infrastructure by the rainstorm said it is unfortunate that trees that are supposed to guard against such occurrence were not planted in the school.
While ordering the planting of trees in the school premises to forestall such occurrence in the future, Governor Oyetola expressed regret that the unfortunate incident is already affecting academic activities of the students of Osogbo Grammar grammar school.
The Governor also promised that renovation work will also commence immediately in schools affected by rainstorm across the state for students to have smooth learning when school resumes.
He said, “I am using this opportunity to tell people of Osun to imbibe the habit of tree planting around their houses so as to serve as windbreakers during windstorm. We can’t afford to expose our buildings to windstorm unnecessarily, let’s plant trees around.
“Our Government will never joke with anything that has to do with the education of our children, they are the future generation and we must continue to do everything to make them comfortable in their schools. It is unfortunate that this has happened, but we are fixing it immediately”. The Governor stated.
