Governor State of Osun Mr Gboyega Oyetola has pledged his total commitment with other Governors in the South West to the success of the security outfit code-named Amotekun, jointly established by the six states of the Southwest, which will tackle insecurity in the region.
Governor Oyetola made the pledge on Thursday in Ibadan at the launch of Amotekun.
The Governor who was represented by his Deputy Mr Benedict Alabi said that part of the commitment of his administration to the success of the joint security outfit was the designation of the Olajokun Park situated along Ibadan-Ife expressway as the operational base for Amotekun which has been renovated and well equipped.
He remarked that the launch of the joint security service is a proof that the security and welfare of the people are paramount to the Governors of South Western States.
Governor Oyetola commended President Mohammadu Buhari particularly the leadership of the Military, The police and the Nigerian Security and Civil Defense Corp for the support saying the joint security outfit is a tacit confirmation of the unity among the security agencies in the country which is in the interest of the people.
Speaking on the implications and impact of the Amotekun on the security, development and the rights of the people, Governor Oyetola appealed to the officials of Amotekun to adopt best practices in their operations by protecting the people, their property, infrastructure and their dignity with integrity, professionalism and ethical standards
He also urged the people to cooperate with the officials of the security outfit and provide intelligence for the successful execution of their assignments.
“This joint security’s outfit is a further fulfillment of the constitutional responsibility of government as the custodian of the security and welfare of the people.
“Amotekun is about protecting everything the South West stands for, chief among which are its security, development and the rights of the people and these three elements are intertwined.
“The six States of the South West are irrevocably committed to the success of Amotekun and will collaborate with the five services to make it a huge success”, Governor Oyetola concluded.
