Osun Commissioner For Agriculture and Food Security, Hon.Adedayo Adewole has disclosed that Governor Oyetola is ready to support cocoa farmers in Osun state.
Adewole made this known at a meeting held in his office at the State Secretariat, Abere.
According to him, Governor Oyetola is aware of the plight of the farmers, their inability to get maximum returns from their efforts and he’s determined to change the face of cocoa farming in the State.
Adewole explained further that all their requests would be forwarded to Mr Governor in due course, adding that government as an institution cannot provide all their needs but encouraged cocoa farmers to group themselves into cooperative societies through which they can assess funds in any available financial institution for proper propagation of their agric business.
Speaking earlier at the meeting, Mr Ajibade Babatola sought for dividends of democracy under the leadership of Governor Adegboyega Oyetola for the cocoa farmers in the state to have abundant cocoa seedlings available and affordable to make Osun number one cocoa producing state in Nigeria.
In the same vein, Mr Andrew Ojo, stressed that cocoa is a cash crop and urged the Department of Tree Crops services to provide enough cocoa seedlings for farmers in the state to prevent them from traveling to Ibadan to buy seedlings. He also urged the government to sell to the farmers at a cheaper rate.
