Another giant stride has been made by the State Government of Osun aimed at improving the State’s education sector as Governor Adegboyega Oyetola on Tuesday flagged off the distribution of instructional materials to public schools across the state.
The multi-million naira worth of instructional materials which also include sporting materials would be distributed to all Primary and Junior Secondary schools as well as pupils with special needs across the state.
While flagging off the distribution exercise held at the SUBEB multi-purpose hall in Osogbo, Governor Adegboyega Oyetola promised that the present administration under his watch will continue to utilize every human and material resources at its disposal to reposition the face of education in the state for good.
The governor added that his administration will also continue to respond effectively to the yearnings and aspirations of public opinions on how to improve the state’s education sector so as to cope with both national and international best practices in the sector.
The state helmsman also took time to reel out some of the achievements of his administration in all sectors, one of which was the construction of 32 blocks of 202 classrooms to accommodate 10,150 pupils and students in 37 State Government owned primary and Junior Secondary schools across the state .
According to Governor Oyetola, “As long as the society continues to develop in the face of new challenges and new ideas evolving, so also would education policies and programmes would need to be adjusted, restructured and tailored towards aligning with new realities and the yearnings of the people.
“I want to assure you that our administration will continue to utilize every human and material resources at its disposal to reposition the face of education in the state for the better.
In his address of welcome, the Executive Chairman, State Universal Basic Education Board(SUBEB) Hon. Ajibola Famurewa said the distribution of the instructional materials, sporting equipment and materials for the schools for special needs in the state would continue to be given a priority by the government .
According to Hon. Famurewa, the realization of the importance of teaching and learning activities in schools as well as making the pupils in the school for special needs to have a sense of belonging, informed the gesture.
Hon. Famurewa said
“the materials and equipment distributed coupled with the availability of highly motivated and competent teachers with pedagogical skills and effective school leaders will definitely lead to achievements of school development plan which is high standard of education, since Education remains the key to both growth and development globally.”
Earlier In his welcome address, the Executive Secretary, SUBEB Mr. Adeoye Bakare said Osun SUBEB has ensured that the services rendered in the Public Schools are free and qualitative.
Mr Adeoye among others identified such services to include provision of textbooks, conducive classrooms, furniture and midday meals to the pupils.
He added that all the materials distributed were carefully selected so as to aid effective teaching and learning as well as evaluation reports of learners to parents.
Highlight of the ceremony attended by virtually all stakeholders in the education sector of the state was the official flag off of the multi million Naira education instructional materials by the state Chief Executive,Mr Adegboyega Oyetola.
