The Commissioner for Information and Civic Orientation in the State of Osun, Mrs Funke Egbemode, has said that the government of the State of Osun has been absolved of allegations that it hoarded palliatives meant for its citizens.
Egbemode said the vindication came after the Private Sector Coalition Against COVID-19 (CA-COVID) wrote a letter to the state government to clarify the reasons the State did not recive the full complement of its support.
Egbemode, speaking during an interview on Rave 91.7FM, on Wednesday, said: “The new development regarding the palliatives is that CA-COVID has written to the government of the State of Osun, admitting that the organization had procurement challenges as a result of the COVID-19 lockdown across the country.
“This letter clarified that the items looted in Cocoa House in Ede were kept there without distributing because they were not complete, stating that the body was ready to bring the rice component.
“The state didn’t have a full complement of their support because what they had was what they supplied. But now, CACOVID has written that the procurement issues had been resolved and they are ready to bring what was remaining, which vindicates the government of the State of Osun and helps to explain that nobody was hoarding food items meant for the people.
“Although the warehouse belonged to the State, the properties belonged to CA-COVID. Even the ones we are expecting still remain the properties of CA-COVID until they have done the flag-off, and properly hand them over to the Food and Relief Committee of the State. So, it’s not ours until it is ours”, Egbemode said.
Egbemode further explained that the government of the State of Osun under the leadership of Governor Adegboyega Oyetola, had as a matter of duty to the citizens explained the goings-on in the State and publicized every effort made by the government to support its citizens during the lockdown.
Egbemode also charged citizens to be concious of their identity as virtuous people and desist from actions that protray the State and its citizens in false light.
“Let us not be known as people who take what belongs to others by force. We are the State of the virtuous, and we must show at all times that we are well-mannered, well brought up, and conscious of our heritage “, Egbemode added.
