Arrangements have been concluded to begin the distribution of the relief materials put together by the 21-man Food and Relief Materials Committee inaugurated by Governor Adegboyega Oyetola of Osun on March 31.
The first phase of the distribution will begin tomorrow, Tuesday in some selected local governments.
One of the local governments where the distribution will begin is Odo-Otin Local Government, covering Odo-Otin North, South and Central Area.
Receiving the relief materials in his palace, the Olokuku of Okuku, Oba Abioye Oyebode lauded the effort of the State Government of Osun for constituting the committee for the distribution of palliatives to cushion the effect of the lockdown order on citizens.
The palliative materials which include rice, beans gaari, semovita, eggs, among others were first offloaded at the Olokuku’s palace from where they will be redistributed to clusters where the beneficiaries will receive them.
Ọba Abioye who thanked the administration of Mr Adegboyega Oyetola for the steps taken to curb the spread of Coronavirus in Osun, stressed that the lockdown became necessary as a result of the rising cases in the State.
He commended the governor for constituting the relief materials committee in such a manner that eminent individuals across all divides were selected without any political consideration.
“Mr Governor has really done well through the constitution of the committee. Their work will go a along way in easing the difficulty that the most vulnerable people in the society are passing through right now.
“If you look at the names on the committee, you will find people who are not politicians and you will also find people that cut across all political divides.
“This is a good move which the governor has taken and I also commend his effort so far in the fight against Covid-19. He is a man that loves his people dearly”.
In his own remarks, Chairman, Odo-Otin Local Government Chairman, Hon. Samson Oduoye noted that the relief materials, which will be given to the most vulnerable in the society, will be shared among beneficiaries irrespective of their political or religious affiliations.
Also speaking, the Chairman, Odo-Otin South Local Council Development Authority, Hon. Mrs Ajala Folasade commended the effort of the State Government and explained that they have decided to offload the materials at the Palace of the Olokuku so as to aid transparency.
Religious leaders were also on ground to ensure the fair and transparent distribution of the relief materials.
Speaking in the same vain, Rev. Ezekiel Idowu of the St. Michael’s Anglican Church, Okua and Mallam, Omoloye Isiaka of Ansarudeen Society, Okuku said they were included in the monitoring committee of the local government so as to ensure fairness and transparency.
It will be recalled that Governor Adegboyega Oyetola had on March 31 inaugurated a 21-man relief materials committee headed by Pastor Enoch Adeboye to see to the distribution of relief materials to the most vulnerable groups in the State.
