The Osun State University campus radio station, UNIOSUN Radio, has commenced full transmission, having obtained a temporary license from the National Broadcasting Corporation.
The station, which operates on 106.9 Frequency Modulation, and domiciled in the Department of Linguistics and Communication Studies in the College of Humanities and Culture, Ikire Campus, is the 13th radio station in the State of Osun.
Speaking during the commissioning, on Wednesday, the Vice-Chancellor of the Osun State University, Professor Labode Popoola, expressed delight in the development, stating that the establishment of the radio station is part of the Institution’s effort to synergize communication and development in teaching to build confidence, knowledge advancement, and social services in the students of the University.
In his words: “To the glory of God, in commemoration of our 13th Founders’ Day Anniversary, UNIOSUN radio was completely overhauled, equipped to meet global standard and is today inaugurated to enhance the knowledge base of our students and to strengthen the prized relationship between the university and our host communities.
“Therefore, in line with the social responsibility of the media, once we procure our full operation license, the catchment of our University can rely on UNIOSUN FM as a tool to access vital information about the activities of the University and well-thought-out opinions about practices and actions that are capable of engendering sustainable development in Osun State and our neighbouring towns and cities.
“With gratitude to God; the Visitor to the Osun State University, Mr. Adegboyega Oyetola; our Chancellor, Apostle (Dr) Folorunso Alakija; our Council led by Mallam Yusuf Alli, SAN; and a host of our stakeholders, UNIOSUN 106.9 FM joins the league of the 13 radio stations in Osun State”, Popoola stated.
Speaking on the development, the Commissioner for Information and Civic Orientation, Mrs Funke Egbemode, described the development as a laudable one that strengthens Osun’s standing as an information-rich State.
According to her: “UNIOSUN Radio 106.9FM is our 13th radio station in the State. That means there is greater access to information by the people of the State, which is a necessity for inclusive government promised by Governor Oyetola.
“We congratulate the Visitor to the University, and the Management of the Osun State University for this giant stride”, Egbemode stated.
