The US government has reportedly approved the anti-malaria drug, Chloroquine, as a treatment against the novel coronavirus disease.
This was announced at a press briefing on Thursday by President Donald Trump, who said that Chloroquin, a drug used to treat malaria and severe arthritis, was approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to test as a COVID-19 coronavirus treatment, as the number of cases continues to increase.
AFP quoted President Trump as saying: “We’re going to be able to make that drug available almost immediately, and that’s where the FDA (Food and Drug Administration) has been so great’.
“They’ve gone through the approval process – it’s been approved. They took it down from many, many months to immediate. So we’re going to be able to make that drug available by prescription”, it was added.
