Osun State Commissioner for Economic Planning and Budget, Prof. Olalekan Yinusa has highlighted some emerging issues in the world as the reasons for the review of the State Development Plan (SDP) 2019-2028.
Yinusa, while declaring open a one-day workshop organized for the State Plan Revision Team (SPRT) and Sector Planning Teams (SPTs) on the review of the development plan, explained that the COVID-19 pandemic and other indices that have recently affected the economy of the world, have necessitated the review.
He lauded Governor Adegboyega Oyetola’s speed approval of the review, adding that it was a testament of his forward-thinking, progressive leadership approach.
Yinusa assured that the review will help the State to have a reliable budget and ensure that there is transparency and accountability in Public Finance Management.
In his words, “We must begin to plan for the future from now. The world is evolving and things are no longer the same. We need to prepare and plan to meet these new realities staring us in the face.
“Population is growing, COVID-19 is ravaging the world, the economy is changing, we need to review our plans. We must be thankful to God that we have a man like Governor Adegboyega Oyetola in the saddle of leadership. He is futuristic in his approach, and that is why we are doing this today”, he stated.
In his remark, the resource person, Dr Gabriel Ojegbile, said the review was important in order to incorporate major priorities of the State, as well as its challenges.
He stressed that the State must be ready to improve on the existing baseline across every sector.
The workshop had in attendance the top echelon of the State’s Civil Service, including Permanent Secretaries, General Managers, Director-Generals, Coordinating Directors and technocrats from all sectors in the State.
