The Spokesman of the Nigerian Senate and Senator representing Osun Central Senatorial District, Dr Surajudeen Ajibola Bashiru, has lauded Governor Adegboyega Oyetola of Osun State for the great developmental works in the State, and for flying high the banner of the All Progressive Congress.
This, according to Bashiru, was the motivation behind the coming together of Oyetola’s Committee of friends to purchase the expression of interest and nomination forms on his behalf.
Senator Bashiru, who spoke on behalf of ‘Friends of Gboyega Oyetola’ at the national Secretariat of the All Progressive Congress in Abuja, on Tuesday, said they had closely looked at Oyetola’s strides in governance and his achievements in the last three years, and discovered that he has performed creditably well especially in the area of infrastructure, social welfare, workers’ welfare and resource management for optimal results.
He added that Oyetola has effectively satisfied the conditions outlined in the Constitution as the primary purpose of governance, through his strategic programmes and policies that have improved the lots of Osun citizens.
“We are friends of Gboyega Oyetola, and we have come to represent the large spectrum of people that are friends of Gboyega Oyetola. Our mission, which we have accomplished, is that we are here on our own to voluntarily collect nomination and expression of interest form, for the purpose of Governor Adegboyega Oyetola contesting in the primaries of the Party and to be reelected as the governor of the State of Osun in the governorship election scheduled for July 16, 2022.
“The reason for doing this is that as friends of Gboyega Oyetola, we have closely looked at his strides in governance and his achievements in the last three years and few months in the saddle as the governor.
“He has performed creditably well in the area of infrastructure, in the area of social welfare, in the area of enhancement of the welfare of public service in the State, and in the area of utilising the scarce resources in the State for the betterment of the generality of the public, particularly in compliance with Section 14 of the Constitution which provides that ‘the primary purpose of governance is security and welfare of the people’.
“He has done tremendously well in the area of securing the State and addressing the welfare of the people. One of the pivotal areas with respect to welfare has to do with what is called ‘Ounje Ileri’, which is a food scheme to support the vulnerable in the society.
“30,000 people are supported on a monthly basis through the food support programme of the government. The health insurance scheme has also made access to health available to the vulnerable in the society.
“As I speak, the governor is declaring open the recruitment training of new teachers as part of efforts at developing the education system in Osun.
“Also in the health sector, he is revitalising 332 Ptimary Healthcare Centres in all the 332 wards in the state. More than 300 of these have been completed and the remaining will be completed soon.
“In the area of road infrastructures, he has built access toads critical to the survival of the people, like Ada-Igbajo road, Ede to Ejigbo road, Moro-Yakoyo-Ipetumodu-Asipa-Ife road, and several other access roads. Intra-city roads in Ejigbo and Ile-Ife are also being worked upon.
“We believe that we will be able to sustain the giant strides of our Party in the State by ensuring the reelection of Mr Adegboyega Oyetola im the coming governorship election. So, when we get back to the State, we will formally present this form to him, and when he completes and returns it, he will have audience with the press.
“Our mission here is just to intimate that we believe that Governor Oyetola should continue to do what he is doing in terms of great developmental works in our State, and that he should continue to fly high the banner of our great Party, the All Progressive Congress”, he said.
Senator Bashiru, who also lauded Oyetola’s great efforts at repositioning the ruling All Progressive Congress in the mind of the people of Osun, said obtaining the nomination form on his behalf was proof of the interest of the entire party structure in Oyetola’s reelection.
He continued: “That we are here to pick up the form is an expression of the fact that the entire party structure of the state is interested in his reelection because ‘one good term deserves another’.
“He has been able to ingraine the consciousness of our party in the minds of the people of the state, public service, artisans and other groups. As I speak, all the nine federal constituency structure of our Party have publicly and openly endorsed Governor Adegboyega Oyetola to continue beyond November 2022.
Artisans, Labour organisations, women, trade groups, market groups and religious organisations have publicly endorsed him to continue. So, we believe that we are giving the Party an easier job to secure the State by supporting Governor Oyetola for the gubernatorial contest of 16th July 2022”, Bashiru added.
